Jenkins & Spierling RULE Byron

Races 9 & 10 of the 2014 Midwest Super Comp Season were held at Byron Dragway this past weekend.  On Saturday, 25 Cars made the call for the first round led by #1 Qualifier Warren Goetsch.  After four rounds of tough, close racing the stage was set for the final round to be run under the rented lights.  Blasting into the darkness were Gary Jenkins in his dragster and Chuck Graves in his silver T-Bird.  In such a close race, it was Gary Jenkins receiving the win light and the cash & prizes that go with it.  Chuck took runner-up honors and also the 5NINES 50 Under 50 Prize.

On Sunday, 24 Cars were all paired up for 1st round.  Still on a hot streak, Chuck Grave Jr. was #1 Qualifier.  Today’s races were run in day lights with Jeff Spierling besting Wally Pote for the Win.  Jeff Spierling was the winner of the Isthmus Engineering 50 over 50 award.

Our next race will be on August 23rd & 24th at Union Grove Wisconsin.  The track will be open after 2 for Big Cars on Saturday with our first time run after 4.  We will race 1/8 mile.  With such a tight points race, it will be in your best interest to be there!



 SATURDAY - Gates open at 10:00 am.
          First time run at 12;30/1;00pm

 SUNDAY - Gates open 8:00am.
         First time run 10:15 am.

We will be able to park in our normal area. Gates will be open Friday night.


Mother Nature “RAINS” at Cordova

The Midwest Super Comp Series made it’s annual stop at Cordova Dragway Park on July 12th & 13th with Mother Nature being the big winner.  Both days races ended after the third round when the rains came.

Saturdays 24-car field was led by #1 Qualifier, Brian Reimer.  When the race ended the three cars left were Larry Bernhausen, Justin Reaves and Ben Wolf.

Sunday started dry for the 25-car field with Ed Bausman holding down the #1 Qualifying spot.  There were four cars left when the rain came.  They were, Jim Gerakaris, Warren Goetsch, Don Higgins, and Lacey Rosenberry.

Please keep the families of Ed Reaves and Mark Worden in your prayers due to their recent passing.  May they Rest In Peace.


Cordova Schedule

The schedule for this weekend’s race is as follows:


  • Gates Open for parking at 5:00pm
  • Test and Tune 6:00 - 10:00pm


  • Gates Open at 9:00am
  • 1st time run will be at approximately 12 noon


  • Gates Open at 8:00am
  • 1st time run approximately 10:00am

Pay your entry at the front gate. No IHRA membership or chassis tag needed if you have current NHRA license and chassis tag. If you are planning to run the IHRA Pro AM events next weekend you can leave your trailers at Cordova.

Bernshausen & Bowman, Best at Byron

Twenty-seven cars made the call on Saturday for the first round led by #1 Qualifier with an 8.904, Pete Daubner.  After five rounds of tough racing, Larry Bernshausen was the king of the hill.  Jeff Torbeck in his Mopar powered dragster was runner-up.  Jeff also took home the 50 Under 50, 5 Nines Money.

Lacey Rosenberry’s 8.900 led the 24 car field on Sunday.  When the final round came about, there was not a dragster in sight.  Jarod Bowman, in his Corvette Roadster, became this years first repeat winner.  Pat Lamont was the runner-up in his 27T Roadster.

The Kuhn Family would like to thank everyone for their help and support following Mike’s crash on Sunday.  Mike has had back surgery and is starting his recovery.

Our next race is on Saturday and Sunday, July 12th & 13th, at Cordova.  You will just need a current NHRA license & chassis tag to race.

Phillips, Bowman, Best at Byron

Scott Phillips parlayed his #1 Qualifing position into a victory over a 34-car field on Saturday.  Wally Pote was the Runner-up.  Scott and Wally received additional payouts from Autometer and Crew Chief Pro.  Wally was the recipient of the 5 NINES 50 UNDER 50 Award.  Brian Reimer earned the Don’s Machine & Auto Parts Best Losing Package Award.

Jarrod Bowman was Sunday’s Champion in his Corvette Roadster.  Dave McWilliams was in the #2 Spot in the 28-car field.  #1 Qualifier was Shelly Thielen.  Jarrod and Dave also received Autometer and Crew Chief Pro Awards.  Dave McWilliams earned the Isthmus Eng. 50 OVER 50 AWARD.  This day saw the Don’s Machine & Auto Parts Award go to Larry Reimer.

Our next races on June 21st & 22nd will again be at Byron Dragway with the same schedule.

Midwest Super Comp Series welcomes
two new sponsors for our 2014 race season:

5 NINES - 50 under 50 Saturdays

  • Driver must be under 50 years of age.
  • The under 50 years of age driver that goes the furthest in eliminations is awarded $50.
  • In the case of a (or) multiple ties, the prize is awarded by the best ET and then if ET is tied, by the best light.

Isthmus Engineering - 50 over 50 Sundays

  • Driver must be over 50 years of age.
  • The over 50 years of age driver that goes the furthest in eliminations is awarded $50.
  • In the case of a (or) multiple ties, the prize is awarded by the best ET and then if ET is tied, by the best light.


The 2014 Midwest Super Comp Series begins it's 27th season on Saturday, May 3rd, at Rt. 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. Gates will open at approximately 9:00 AM with our first time run around l0:30 AM.

We will once again feature a l00% payout starting with 1st round winners and ending with a $1000 payout to the winner when there is a minimum of a 20 car field.

We are proud to announce that Autometer / Dedenbear will once again supply $200 and $50 certificates to the winner and runner-up at each race.

Crew Chief Pro will also award the winner and runner-up $100 and $50 if using any of Don Higgins products, $50 and $25 if not.

Don's Auto Machine & Parts owner Tony Pontillo, will be giving a $100 machine work gift certificates to the MWSC Member that has the best package but lost in the first round.

New this year, we will have a $2 perfect run pool during the qualifying run at every race. The pool with roll over until someone runs a perfect run or at the last race the driver that has the best package wins the pot. See Greg Kolinek to enter.

Also, it was voted upon to raise the entry fee to $125 at Byron on Sept. 20th and 21st. The round money will remain the same but the winner will take home $1,500 plus depending of the car count. For the latest updates you can go to the MWSC Facebook page.
